Doriano Romboni Killed in Simoncelli Memorial Benefit Race

Retired Grand Prix racer Doriano Romboni suffered fatal injuries in a crash during practice for benefit race in memory of Marco Simoncelli. Romboni, 44, reportedly lost control during the second practice session at the second-annual Sic Supermoto Day, running into the grass before swerving back onto the track and into the path of Gianluca Vizziello. Romboni was air-lifted to Santa Maria Goretti hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier today, John McGuinness earned his 21st Isle of Man TT victory, claiming the top step in the TT Zero electric motorcycle race aboard the Mugen Shinden San. His single-lap race time of 19:17.300 means he averaged an astonishing 117.366 mph, destroying the existing lap record of 109.675 mph set last year by Michael Rutter aboard the MotoCzysz. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, the Michael Czysz could not field a team this year. 2013 US Motorcycle Sales Data

The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) reported a modest 1.4% growth in U.S. motorcycle and scooter sales in 2013, with consumers purchasing 465,783 vehicles. The sales data represents numbers from the MIC’s member brands which include BMW, Can-Am, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, the Piaggio Group (which includes Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa), Victory, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha.
