1964 VELOCETTE LE MK3 Very Original This is a very original example of the venerable LE (Little Engine) Velocette. The LE or "Noddy bike" as it was known in it's home market of Great Britain was used by the military and police, and enjoyed a long production life from 1948-1970. This is the final variation, called the MK3 and sports a 200cc water cooled opposed two-stroke twin with foot shift, kick starter and shaft drive. I believe that 1964 is the last model with 6v electrics, having been upgraded on the next year's model to 12v. This bike still has its original 6v system. This bike is in original paint and still has the original seat covering. The tires are old, but hold air and have lots of tread. The tires should be replaced before any serious distance riding. The paint has stains and touchup, but overall has a nice patina. The majority of the paint shines well. There is a small bit of rust in the lower body on the left side in front of the rear tire-see photo. The chrome is very nice with the exception of some small items like the ammeter trim. The gas tank has been cleaned and painted, and the carburetor and petcock are rebuilt. The bike runs, but has low compression in the right hand cylinder and so that cylinder fires erratically, mostly not firing. The transmission shifts smoothly. The kick lever is not engaging, so it must be bump started, however it starts very easily this way. There is a very reasonable reserve on this auction. It is sold on a bill of sale.
