Other Moto Parilla Trailmaster 250 description

For auction:

A Moto Parilla 250 Trailmaster.

I aquired this motorcycle over 22 years ago, in much the same condition and state that you see it now. At the time, I had plans to make a Grand Sport replica from it due to the Trailmaster's higher state of tune and horsepower over the Tourist model. I'm somewhat relieved that I didn't mess with it, as true Trailmaster models are very few and far between nowadays. I've seen more Grand Sports and Grand Sport Replicas than I have Trailmasters. I have a new Parilla project that I will be turning my attention to, so this one really needs a new home. Here's what I know about it:

The Good:

This bike has the correct matching frame and motor numbers! I also have the title/pink slip. It is not currently in the DMV's system and hasn't been for decades. Titles shows it being a 1962 model, but it is an earlier model. Late 1960 or early 1961 is my guess. The production number is pretty low. The bike has been in California since new.

The motor is NOT stuck and it even has compression. The kick start engages and works as it should. All external motor components are there and in good shape. The cases have no damage that I can find. I removed the clutch cover for the first time to find everything (that can be seen through the opening) in clean, well-preserved condition. The outer clutch cap shows some minor surface discoloration, but most do. There has been no water in this motor. The gearbox shifts through all 4 gears. The points still have "meat" on them and the points cam is shiny and new-looking. Check out that pink spark plug..hubba hubba!! I do not know the condition of the top-end or crankshaft. The Trailmasters motors were equipped with the X1 cam, but I have never checked to see if that is what is equipped. Of course, this motor (any older Hi-cam Parilla motor) should to be opened and looked into before you try and bring it back to life.

The carburetor is a Dellorto SS1 27D. Can't complain about that! All of the carburetor's components are there, inside and out. I've read that Trailmasters came equipped with anything from 24mm UB's to 28mm SS1's. I prefer the SS1 series!

The fenders are Parilla. The front fender is in wonderful shape and very straight (under 4 layers of paint!). It only has the slightest ding on the top-middle section, about as round as a pea. The rear fender is original to the bike, but it is going to need some work to get back into perfect condition. It has a few stress cracks and many extra holes to be filled in. The picture looks like it has A LOT of cracks, but that is just chipped/flaked off paint that has been primed over. Honestly, any Parilla fender is worth fixing due to their extreme rarity. Fenders seem to be the first things that go missing on these bikes.

The forks are Parilla. The sleeves, lower legs and headlight ears are in great shape. The forks do not operate up and down. They are NOT stuck, as is evidenced by the lower legs twisting freely on the inner fork tubes. Maybe the 2 different components need lubrication, but they are not fused together.

The front hub and brake plate that are installed are both for a Trailmaster. You can see a gap between them. This is because I bought the bike with only a front hub, no brake plate. I then found and purchased a complete hub and brake plate, but it had no wheel or spokes. This bike comes with the matching hub for the brake plate that is installed on the bike currently (see pictures). The hub and wheel that is installed is just for rolling the bike around.

The rear hub is correct and complete.

The frame and fenders have about 5 layers of paint protecting them. I used a little lacquer thinner to take the primer and top layers of paint off in a few sections (hence the different colors) and the condition of the metal under the paint is excellent. The frame's rear arms that hold the rear fender will need a little tweaking. They are very easy to straighten, as they are pressings and not tubes. The rest of the frame and swingarm are very straight.

The seat is original. This might be the rarest piece on the bike. The sheet metal and brackets are in solid shape and very straight. The seat cover on the other hand....

The exhaust system is all there. I bead blasted it to check its condition. I then hit it with some flat silver paint to keep it from rusting until such time as I was ready to chrome it. There is some pitting in the metal, but the metal is pretty thick. These pipes (in my opinion) can be rechromed. The exhaust pipe has no dings or gouges. The muffler has a few dings (shown in photos) but is in solid condition. The heat guard needs some work. The guard's clamp is in good shape as is the support clamp/bracket that bolts to the engine/frame.

The rims are OEM. I, personally, can't stand them, but they are there and can be rechromed.

Toolboxes and original knobs are in good shape. One lid will need to have a tiny aluminum centering tab (holds the cover in place) welded on. This is a common problem due to the tabs being cast into the covers and being so delicate. It's a simple fix.

Brand new foot peg rubbers are included.

The tank is the original early-type. It's pretty clean inside and there are no signs of rust. The fuel tap is original. The tank has a ding (as pictured). Cap is original.

The rear shocks are original Ceriani units. They are in pretty good shape with a few of the spring "cups" needing some straightening.

The speedometer and drive unit both work but the cable is stuck in the cable housing. For this reason the cable housing is not attached to the speedometer.

Headlight ring is correct, but the headlight is GE.

Taillight has seen better days (see picture). Maybe you can make it work with some creative welding/patching?

The original voltage regulator is present.

The Bad:

This bike is missing the correct center stand, chain guard, air cleaner, choke lever and cable, driver's foot pegs, correct handlebars, handle bar switch cover and horn. There are standard bolts here and there and the front fender stays are attached to the fork with zip ties. You'll be buying new bolts and nuts anyway...I hope.

The electrical wiring has all been cut up near headlight. The HT coil has gone missing.

The Deal:

Ask questions before you bid! I will answer them as best I can. Please don't ask me what the reserve price is set at.

This bike is sold as-is, where-is. I make or imply no warranty whatsoever. I have described the bike to the best of my knowledge. If you cannot pay for this bike, DO NOT BID!! I do not mess around with dead beats. Zero feedback bidders will have their bids removed unless they email me first. A $500 non-returnable deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end. The balance must be paid within 72 hours of auction end unless you make arrangements with me first. A certified bank check or money order is fine, but it will need to be 100% cleared through my bank before taking possession of the motorcycle. Cash is fine if you show up in person to collect the bike. I can store the bike for a little while, but you must first pay for the motorcycle in full. I will NOT accept We$tern Uni0n checks or any other shenanigans. You are responsible for the transporting/shipping of this motorcycle. I will work with you or YOUR shipper and make myself available to meet him/her here at my house for pickup. If you are a scammer, please slam your head in a car door before bidding.
