Other Maico description

Wow - selling a super, super low hour and nearly all original 1978 Maico MC250 Magnum 250cc motocross bike.

This bike is nearly all original and was ridden one season in 1978, and the put away. The bike is a single owner bike and was purchased new in 1978 from Franks Motorcycles in Port Chester, New York. Frank's was a Maico dealer back in the day.  Frank the owner of the shop ported the cylinder, and that was the only time the motor was apart - and it was when the bike was new and before it was delivered.

The bike was then ridden by the owner an estimated 8-10 times at Milford Riders, in Milford CT, and during the 1978 season. The rider was self proclaimed "pretty slow", at least that is what he said when he was selling the bike. After the '78 season, the bike was put in his garage, and never run again. The guy got married and lost interest in Motocross but never bothered to sell or get rid of the bike. A friend of mine knew about this bike and after several years, finally bought it from the original owner. It was still dirty from his last ride in 1978, but was in near immaculate original condition. It looks as though it has never even been down on the ground, the original grips are that nice....

Everything is stock - plastic (near mint shape, no cracks, bends or breaks), handlebars, grips, cables, levers, tires, etc - its all there.

The ONLY things that have been done to it are as follows:
  • Gas tank was painted and new decals installed
  • New seat cover installed (old cover was shot from sitting)
  • A few modern stickers were installed (not my taste, but whatever)
  • Countershaft case guard / sprocket cover is "Factory style" (original was missing and we didnt want to break cases)
  • Front number plate is replacement item
  • Fuel Line was replaced
Thats it.

The rest of the bike is all original and near flawless. The bike is clean enough to put in your office and as a trophy to any collection. This bike has only had some VERY LIGHT restoration and the rest of the bike is original and untouched. This is not some over-restored modern replica bike - it is the real deal. The fenders still have the embossed name of the plastic manufacture in it. Good luck finding those!

This motorcycle is located in Port Chester, New York (same town it was purchased in).

We do not have the title for it. Bill of sale if you want one.

Please look closely at photos.

In case you are wondering anything about me as a seller, I have been on eBay since 1998 (thats 16 years) and have not one negative feedback. I am just a nut for older dirt bikes and ATV's from the 1980's. See my other listings for some more of my stuff, but I doubt I will get around to listing all of them.

If you are an international buyer, please see below for more details, but I can work with you on getting the bike shipped.

The boring stuff (but please read):
Shipping:
I suggest you use Daily Direct for transport. Their phone number is 888-haulbikes, and they are professionals with a strong track record of moving expensive and nice motorcycles. I also have some other shipping options as well, and some that are much cheaper than you might think, so hit me up with any questions, but Daily Direct is very good, and offers door to door roll on and roll off service.

I can and will ship international, but the buyer must coordinate this, as the process can be cumbersome. I will assist as best as possible and do have really good access to shippers to the UK, Europe  and Australia. I can also ship to the middle east as well.

Payment:
A $500 non refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of closing, or a friendly phone call or clear email on who you are and how you intend to close the deal. I am very easy to work with, but a little clear communication goes a long way with me. Paypal is fine for deposit, but the fee and commission they take is very high.  Cash is preferred, but we will take payment however is easiest for you for to send, as we understand that some buyers might be out of the country. Cash, wire transfer, bank check, Paypal, WU, Carrier Pidgin - whatever - but as long as it clears our bank and you are not playing the Nigerian lottery with me, I could care less how it comes.

If you are a serious buyer and have the money in hand, I am happy to talk to you on the phone about whatever questions or interest you have in the bikes. But please, no time wasters or tire kickers.

The bike is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the listing at any time if a local buyer comes forward.
