The Hanlon Brothers spirit and ambition to resurrect the Excelsior brand resulted in heavy-weight cruiser motorcycle that became an important new chapter in American motorcycle history.
While the original Henderson company stopped making motorcycles in 1931, a rebirth due to the efforts of the Hanlon brothers brought the brand back to life in 1999 in the SUPER-X model. This year 2000 SUPER-X is one of only 720 made that year, is highly collectible as it represents the Hanlon's first design. Following styling cues from the original machines such as tank, fenders and unique fork, the Super-X is a modern day styling interpretation of the original, but with entirely up-to-date mechanicals including the 1386cc DOHC fuel injected 50 degree V-Twin engine designed and built by Excelsior. This bike weighs in at 675 lbs. These bikes had a hefty MSRP. One of about 1950 total machines built in a two year period before under-capitalization drove the company into bankruptcy, this SUPER-X has been in a collection for most of its life, is nearly perfect with just 1077 miles ridden, runs and drives like new. However, the tires are original, 16 years old, so if the next owner plans to ride the machine, they should be replaced. |
