Postie Bike Challenge [video]
Fri, 19 Jun 2009The Postie Bike Challenge started in 2002 as a one-off event in Brisbane, Australia to prove that small bikes can travel long distances over both asphalt, dirt, sand, or stony surfaces has turned into a 10-day charity event. The entry fee is $4,000 but almost everything is taken care of, including: Late model Honda CT110 Postie bike (registered to you!) All breakfasts, lunches and dinners All fuel for the trip One way air ticket back to Brisbane Support truck to carry equipment, clothing bag and mechanics Final celebration dinner and hotel accommodation That’s right, you can keep the Honda CT110 Postie bike (designed for commercial and agricultural, also used by Australia Post) but the concept is to give the bike to charity in your name after the event is over, its up to you but more than 90% of the participants do give the bike back. The 2009 Postie Bike Challenge will take place from October 3rd to the 13th and will go from Brisbane to Melbourne, the destination changes every year. This time around features the no-holds-barred, back-and-forth action between Luca Cadalora, aboard the Rothmans Honda NSR250 and Helmut Bradl, father of current MotoGP rider, Stefan Bradl, riding the HB Honda NSR250. The stage is the 1991 250cc Italian Grand Prix at Misano — back when it was run in the correct, counter-clockwise, direction.
Intermot 2012: Honda CRF450 Rally Unveiled
Tue, 02 Oct 2012Today at Intermot 2012, Honda unveiled the CRF450 Rally, the machine it plans to enter in the 2013 Dakar Rally, marking the manufacturer’s return to the race after more than two decades. Honda has competed nine times from 1981 in the forerunner of the present Dakar Rally, the Paris-Dakar Rally. Cyril Neveu of France took Honda to its first victory in 1982, the race’s fourth year, and from 1986 to 1989 Honda won four consecutive titles for an overall record of five victories in nine years. The CRF450 Rally is based on Honda’s commercial CRF450X enduro racing model, and features electronic fuel injection, auxiliary fuel tanks in the panniers and lower side fairings, and the requisite navigation equipment located behind the windscreen.
