Harley-Davidson EL Panhead description

Thanks for looking at another Block Plane classic motorcycle!

Up for your consideration is a very nice 1949 EL Panhead.  We just acquired this motorcycle yesterday and it is in perfect running condition.  Engine is a 1949 EL with matching belly numbers ( 2 49-7079). The cases have no visible repairs and the VIN is perfect with matching title as a 1949 HD. The cylinders have no markings which is correct for 48-49 cylinders and the heads are OEM large fin (56 up) heads in remarkable condition. The heads being later have the o-ring type intake manifold with a -55 OEM intake manifold, hooked up to a M35 linkert and a single bolt later style air cleaner.  The transmission is a 1950 case with the later pig snout style kicker lid.  Transmission case is marked I 0 on the bottom with no visible repairs and the bike shifts smooth as silk. The motor has an OEM 66-69 auto advance timer, but the cable for the timer throttle cable is still there and can be attached to a manual advance timer no problem.  The tanks and tins are all original Harley and are in amazing condition.  The paint is not original, but the last owner thinks it was painted sometime in the early 90's in the "burgundy" color offered in 1949.  The badges are genuine Fox Co. and look great on the shifter tanks and have the later style gas caps. The oil bag is also original, it has had a sight glass installed, which is pretty darn cool, but I can't tell if the patent sticker is original, so you be the judge. The frame is a 57 straight leg frame (steering head forging code is -29) that is in perfect condition with not a single visible repair. I have not taken the tanks off, so I don't know the month, but all hallmarks and forging numbers are visible throughout the frame that confirm a perfect 57.  The front Hydra-Glide front fork has the later 55-59 stainless fork covers and the headlight has the "guide" marking.  The side marker lights have no visible markings that I can see.  The bars, grips and risers are all OEM 1949 along with the front brake and lowers.  Dash and speedo are original as is all the linkage and controls. Saddle bags are original 48-49 "king size" bags that look great on the original rear fender.  The bag mounts may not be original to the bike, but look great all the same. The solo seat is an original Harley seat with the conchos being a user mod from back in the day.  Buddy springs and pegs are original and already installed and ready for your period buddy seat. The rear ride off stand and tombstone tail light are original but the license plate mounting bracket has had the two mounting rivets replaced with screws.  The glass lens has the Harley Davidson marking and the license plate lens is glass also. Front fender has the correct trim, but the previous owner installed a smaller 50-57 style front fender lamp. Front and rear wheels are correct Kelsey Hayes rims with star hubs.  Front crash bar is the 54-57 style due to the straight leg frame, and the rear crash bar is correct 37-57 style. Overall, this is a fantastic original bike in perfect running, riding, and stopping condition.  The most notable things about the bike are as follows: The frame is obviously not correct for a 49, but is a completely immaculate straight leg, so not too shabby.  The only reproduction parts that I can see, are the outer primary cover, the rocket muffler, the y-pipe, front L/R marker lights and front fender light.  Other than that this is one hell of a bike.  I have included a video of the bike running attached below as well as a link to my you tube page.

Airhawk Introduces DS Comfort Seating System For Dual Sport Bikes, Bikes With Narrow Seats

Fri, 16 May 2014

Airhawk, Inc., has introduced the DS Comfort Seating System, a cushion designed specifically for motorcyclists who ride dual sport bikes or bikes with narrower seats. Features of the DS cushion include a narrow front to match the seat profile of most dual sport/adventure bikes and bikes with narrow seats.  A tapered-down front minimizes unwanted pressure on the scrotum, and a heavy-duty hold-down strap system ensures a secure fit to the bike.  The DS also works well with narrow customized or aftermarket seats that have been installed for the purpose of getting the rider lower to the ground.
