Bultaco Bultaco Metralla 250 MK2 description

1966 Bultaco Metralla 250 MK2

The Metralla was the fastest 2-stroke street bike in the world back when it was introduced:  250cc, 5 speed transmission, and 32 horsepower.

These bikes enjoy a well-deserved reputation for excellent road holding and being immensely fun to ride. Bultaco nailed the steering geometry, rigidity and weight distribution. The lightweight Metralla's ability to grip the road inspires confidence. The balance of handling, power and braking is just right.

In the 1967 250cc Production class race at the Isle of Man TT races, Bill Smith and Tommy Robb finished first and second on Metrallas and set a lap record for 250cc production machines that stood until 1976. With aftermarket items like an expansion chamber, racing Dell'Orto carb, and revised gearing, the Metralla could do an honest 100 mph.

This is an unrestored original California bike that was found parked in a garage for the past 30 plus years. It has matching number engine and chassis, black CA plate, and old style pink slip title. The bike has been started recently but it has not been ridden in a while, and will need general servicing before it is ready to use. These bikes are extremely simple to work on. The bike can be serviced and enjoyed as it is (with a nice aged patina) or used for the basis of a restoration.

Chassis number: B2300931

Engine number: M2300931

The factory steel tank is in nice condition - it has been repainted in solid black (rather than two-tone silver & black).  The toolbox/oil tank/plunger are no longer with the bike, but these can be found on ebay or through Bultaco specialists in Spain (the original oil plunger was a clever idea, but it is much safer to premix your own fuel to get the proper ratio).  The bike still has its original type Amal carburetor & air filter, alloy rims, seat with suede insert, correct fenders, and the beautiful Metralla front brake with large air scoop.

The bike is located in Ventura, just North of Los Angeles.  I am happy to show to serious potential bidders, and encourage viewing before bidding if possible.  I can help with inexpensive US transport or export arrangements if needed.

Available for inspection during the auction period, not after it ends.  Please ask any and all questions before bidding.

I have described this to the best of my ability - not responsible for mistakes or omissions in the description.   NOTE: The mileage shown in is not accurate - I forgot to note the odometer reading when these photos were taken (and simply chose a number to complete the ebay form).  I will add the correct mileage to the listing as soon as possible.

I'm liquidating my long-term motorcycle collection and am selling a number of other collector bikes that will be listed on ebay as time allows.

Please check my feedback rating and bid with confidence.

Good Luck!

On Jun-10-16 at 16:28:32 PDT, seller added the following information:

Odometer currently reads 733 miles.  I don't have any way to verify the true miles, but assume that the mileage should be higher than this.  Most likely that the speedometer has been replaced sometime during the past 50 years.
