Big Dog Motorcycles, LLC, started production in 1994 and has since built nearly 25,000 motorcycles, becoming the world’s largest manufacturer of custom motorcycles. The company’s entire line of five motorcycles uses a V-twin 117 cubic inch engine (either carbureted or fuel injected), 6-speed transmission, stretch one-piece steel tank, right side drive, super fat tires, chrome components, steel fenders, and an extensive variety of custom paint colors and graphics.
Big Dog Motorcycles started in 1994 with one person customizing one bike (known as Old Smokey) in one residential garage. For a few years company slowly increased. In 1998 model Pitbull appeared, and it was newly engineered. Sales at that year were $6 million already.
New jump was in 2000, when 6 new bikes appeared, including Wolf and Husky. They had more performance, most of them were with hidden shock.
In 2001 8 new models appeared, including Mastiff. Super Fats Series were shown in 2002. Chopper from 2003 became later the most popular between all other Big Dog bikes.
In 2005 Innovation Award was won for 6-Speed BDM Balance Drive, as well as V-Twin Bike of the Year award for Bulldog. K-9 was named the V-Twin Bike of the Year in 2006, making Big Dog Motorcycles the first manufacturer to earn that award two years in a row. The all-new Pitbull was named the V-Twin Bike of the Year and The Best Cruiser by Robb Report magazine in 2008.
