BMW R-Series description

                                                                              1977 BMW R100/RS

You have a chance to bid on this 1977 BMW R100RS, serial#6180044.  An early first year model built 08/76 and originally owned by Malcolm Forbes.  This is the first model year for the R100RS with the wind tunnel designed frame mounted fairing which all sport and touring motorcycles would follow to this day.  Even today this is one of if not the best fairing ever put on a motorcycle.

I have owned this bike about 25 years and did the restoration about 10-12 years ago.  I started with a numbers matching 1 of 200 40mm big pipe/big valve bike in vgc.   I purchased the bike with 6016 miles and pretty much rode it all over the country before the restoration.  Since then it has been ridden a few hundred miles per year now showing 36,XXX miles.

The bike runs as good as it looks.  No expense has ever been spared on maintenance or during the restoration.  The bike has CC ported and polished heads with hardened seats, Dyna3 ignition, carbs completely rebuilt with alcohol proof independent floats, lightened and balanced flywheel with all new clutch components.  Wheels and chassis have all new bearings, all new rubber, seals, cables, etc.  Everything works exactly as it should except the clock which loses some time lately.  If bike does not sell right away I may get the clock fixed.  Forks rebuilt, Koni shocks, Westco battery, complete charging system redone with HD diode board, both seats, BMW touring cases, Browns sidestand, Luftmeister windshield, etc.  You can get on this bike today and ride cross-country with confidence.

The bodywork was completely stripped and finished in the correct #530 paint purchased from Holt BMW.  The clear was sanded and buffed into what you see here.  All frame parts were professionally powder coated including the saddle bag mounts.

This bike is not perfect nor do I claim it to be but I seriously doubt there is a nicer one out there that is ridden.  I know pictures can tell a thousand lies but  I this one is nicer in person.  This bike would be great just to look at in your living room but it would be a sin to hide it instead of occasionally being ridden.  Before all the comments start coming on how the bike is finished, over finished or unfinished they should know I made the bike the way I wanted and thought I would have it for life. Unfortunately our family situation has changed allowing the bike to be offered for sale

This is a well-documented first year RS and comes with ALL items the bike came with from Germany in August 1976.  The bike has the complete toolkit, tire pump, tire repair kit, original embroidered shop rag, owners manual (R90S manual stamped for first service, RS manuals not shipped with early bikes), shop manual, parts manual, windshield, side stand, shocks and even the original tires.  Malcolm Forbes original registration and insurance card.

Bike is available for inspection by appointment.  Bid with confidence, as once the reserve is met the sale will be exclusive to eBay bidders.  There is no buy it now price, and I will not give out the reserve.  My reserve is well below what it is worth or a BMW shop would get for it.  Bid the most you are willing to pay, and we will see what happens.
This is a one of 200 40mm big pipe models and the one and only owned by Malcolm Forbes.  This may just be the most significant first year R100RS out there. The bike speaks for itself but is over 40 years old and is sold as is with no warranty.  I have not been very active on eBay lately but you can look at my 100% positive feedback to confirm the type of seller I have been.  This is a great opportunity for the right person to own a significant piece of BMW history.

Thank you for looking and good luck on your bid.

AMA Pro Racing Announces Basic Twins Flat Track Class for 2014 Season

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

AMA Pro Racing announced a new class for Flat Track racing designed to provide a new stepping stone for up-and-coming Pro-licensed racers, replacing the Pro Singles class in 2014. The new class, to be called Basic Twins, is more or less a revival of the Basic Expert Twins division that ran during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, but dropped when the Pro Singles class was introduced for 2009. The new class will give young racers a chance to showcase their skills on Twins, easing their transition to eventually enter the Grand National Expert Twins class.

BMW Announces Recall Campaign for K1600 Family Motorcycles

Fri, 25 Feb 2022

The recall concerns all 2019-2020 BMW K1600 models due to the risk of rear suspension link failure caused by a manufacturing defect - the strength of the part does not meet the factory requirements. This linkage may be destroyed during normal road use, causing the rear of the motorcycle to fall onto the rear wheel. BMW dealers this spring will begin notifying owners of motorcycles that are subject of the recall campaign to visit an authorized dealership for a rear suspension linkage replacement.

This marks the third consecutive year of record sales, following the 106,358 motorcycles in 2012 and 104,286 motorcycles sold in 2011.
