BMW R-Series tech info
BMW R-Series description
I have owned the bike since 1985, but let the tags expire in 1987 while I
was at college. I was concerned about using unleaded gas in it, and I
got tired of fixing the floats, and it needed a new muffler cross-over
pipe (which I still have, but never installed) to pass inspection. I
did not need it for transportation, so it got left alone and ended up
stored in a barn for a few years, until I moved to a place where I could
store it where I lived. My intention was to harden the engine for the
unleaded gas, but I could never afford to have it done. The last time I
had it running was around 94 or so. Since then, it was kept in a shed
until 97, then garages. Kind of became part of the garages at both of
the houses that I lived. Mostly out of sight and out of mind, unless it
was in the way. I have thought of trying to restore it, but my kids are
not really interested in it, and so many years have passed, that it is
just time to sell. It has 26,061 miles on it. I still have the Virginia state title.
I took off the faring a few years ago and stored it in the attic of the garage to get it out of the way. For the one picture I put it mostly on, just to show it, but did not tightened it down. The engine does have compression, but it has not had gas in it for quite some time and the tank is rusted inside. There is some rust on the handle bars as seen in the pictures, and the mufflers are not original, but they were incredibly loud (even before the leak). The spark plug cable holders (piece that goes over the plug) have broken on both sides where the spark plug wire is clamped onto the holder (can see in the picture somewhat). The motorcycle stand piece that sticks out to pull it down is broken off, but I do still have it. The emblem on one side of the gas tank is a little damaged, and there is a spot of rust on the front fender where a small amount of paint is missing (don't remember how that happened), and the gas cap is not original (I thought that I had kept it, but I cannot find it). Still has a tool kit (the ones that it had when I got it), but I am not sure what is supposed to be in it. That is what I can think of to mention, but if you have questions, please ask. Pick up is local, but I will work with your shipping agent as well. |

2011-2013 BMW F800GS and F700GS Recalled in Canada
Wed, 19 Jun 2013Transport Canada announced a recall for the 2011-2013 BMW F800GS and the 2013 F700GS because of a problem with the kickstand ignition cut-off switch. The switch is designed to turn off the engine when the stand is down and the motorcycle is shifted into gear; this prevents the motorcycle from being ridden with the kickstand deployed. On certain BMW F800GS and F700GS models however, the cut-off switch can loosen and become damaged.
French Moto Website Anticipates Versys 1000 at EICMA 2011
Mon, 24 Oct 2011Musings of a liter-size engined Kawasaki Versys have circulated the web for a few years now, as loyalists of the likable Versys 650, as well as displacement-driven riders waiting in the wings, have pondered the potential of a more powerful adventure bike from Kawasaki that’s in the same league as BMW’s R1200GS and Yamaha’s Super Tenere. Alas, nothing of the sort has ever left the lips of Kawasaki, let alone go into production. Recently, however, the French motorcycle website, Moto-net.com, has produced convincing images that appear like photos of a complete Versys 1000, including matching hard luggage.
2013 BMW F700GS and F800GS Announced
Tue, 03 Jul 2012BMW has updated its F800GS and introduced the F700GS which replaces the F650GS for the German manufacturer’s 2013 lineup. The 2013 BMW F800GS slots in under the R1200GS as the company’s mid-displacement adventure tourer while the F700GS is an entry-level model to the segment. Despite the nomenclature, both models are equipped with liquid-cooled and fuel-injected four-valve 798cc twin-cylinder engines, just like the 650.
